Today We Are Inspired By ...
WHO: VERNAL SCOTT
We Are Inspired Because: Vernal has gained many years experience in the field, covering the full range of equality/diversity strands, including Race, Disability, Sexuality, Religion, Gender and Age. In the mid 1980s Vernal launched the People’s (multi-cultural) Group at the London Lesbian & Gay Centre, and later founded the Black Communities AIDS Team. In ‘87 he was appointed as the Head of HIV services for the London Borough of Brent - serving one of London’s ethnic majority communities. In the early 90s, Vernal organised the Reach Out and Touch Procession with Flowers (from Hyde Park to Trafalgar Square), which attracted over six thousand attendees. The event boasted Whitney Houston and other celebrities amongst Vernal’s list of special guests and speakers. The following year Vernal invited Dionne Warwick to launch the Brent HIV Centre; the singer had earlier teamed up with Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Gladys Knight on the AIDS charity hit, ‘That’s What Friends Are For’. Now working as a media commentator, diversity consultant and motivational speaker, Vernal seeks to help individuals achieve their personal and professional goals, as well as assisting organisations to achieve dignity and service excellence, for all."
